Research published in the Annals of Tourism Research (Li et al., 2023) found that combining sentiment analysis with economic indicator data substantially outperforms using economic data alone in forecasting destination demand. The UNWTO Tourism Confidence Index studies found that adding sentiment to statistical forecasts improves accuracy and, more importantly, improves the ability to predict turning points before they show up in the numbers.
